Our Role in Leading Change

The Selma-Dallas County Children’s Policy Alliance, mandated by state statute, has been dedicated to improving the lives of children in Dallas County since 1999. We unite community leaders—juvenile court judges, education officials, and representatives from various agencies—to collaborate on initiatives that support juvenile justice, child welfare, and family well-being.

As the home of the Children’s Policy Alliance of Dallas County, we create an expert advisory board that engages in meaningful discussions about the needs of our community’s children. We gather diverse perspectives through roundtable discussions, needs assessments, and surveys to ensure every child’s voice is heard. Our work focuses on identifying critical needs, strategic planning, and allocating resources to provide comprehensive support for children and families.

Each year, we share our findings through the Annual State of the Children Report and the Annual Youth Agenda and Action Plan, which help guide the direction of our initiatives. With the involvement of community task forces, we turn these insights into action—developing creative solutions and strategic plans that move Selma and Dallas County families forward.

Together, we are committed to ensuring that every child in Dallas County has the opportunity to thrive. We identified nine pillars/areas of impact we can make on a child’s life…

Our Approach

At the heart of our work is community engagement and data-driven decision-making. We conduct regular listening sessions to gather insights into children's needs, informing our strategic planning efforts. Through grant writing and partnerships, we secure resources to implement our Juvenile Justice Strategic Plan. Our goal is to build a sustainable model that supports long-term improvements in children's well-being across Dallas County. We do this by ensuring that each of the nine pillars perform the following six  operational functions:

  1. Data Collection & Analysis

  2. Public Education & Awareness

  3. Collaborative Problem Solving & Strategic Planning

  4. Community Organizing & Programming

  5. Progress Monitoring & Accountability

  6. Leadership & Policy Development

How We Create Change

We drive meaningful impact through comprehensive, community-led initiatives to uplift children and families. Here's how we make a difference:

  • Empowerment Through Education: We offer support programs that promote school success and college readiness, ensuring every child has the tools and opportunities to reach their full academic potential.

  • Health and Well-being: Our programs provide vital resources for mental health support, substance abuse prevention, and trauma resolution, helping children and families build resilience and thrive in a supportive environment.

  • Juvenile Justice Reform: We advocate for innovative programs that prevent juvenile crime and focus on rehabilitation, offering pathways to success and reducing recidivism among young people.

  • Community Engagement: By fostering strong partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses, we empower families to succeed and strengthen the social fabric of Selma and Dallas County.
